Luxo Apartment

2018 Roma, Italy
LOCATION: Roma
AREA: 65 sq. m.
TYPE: Realized project

The historic Ostiense district, with its skyline dominated by an undisputed symbol of industrial archeology, the iron structure of the Gazometer, has influenced the renovation of this 65 square meter apartment which has a strong recall to industrial elements, but also a great respect for the load-bearing framework of the building of the 1930s both in architectural terms and in the distribution of interior spaces. Before the renovation, the apartment had a long corridor on which the kitchen, a small bathroom, the living room and the two bedrooms were respectively located. The new plan distribution, following an important interior renovation, presents a large open space that completely redesigns the use spaces, thanks to the construction of a fitted plasterboard wall that houses the TV on one side and the kitchen on the other . The concept on which the architectural project develops is a “box in the box”, created by building ad hoc a pastel green box, which encloses the bathroom and the kitchen outside. To emphasize this concept, as a projection in the planimetry of the volumetric ceiling, cement tiles were laid in shades of white and black that break the harmony of the oak-effect parquet laid throughout the house and recall the imperial Rome of the River Port which, still today, it leaves its marks along the banks of the Tiber. Even the kitchen with a decidedly industrial finish plays on the concept of “full and empty” through the use of black colored wall units and oak effect compartments. From the entrance the eye is captured by the recessed LED lights placed at various heights along the entire wall, which in addition to giving directionality, thanks to the RGB mode, configure colorful and iridescent scenarios reminiscent the nearby Luxometro. The bathrooms have the same cement tiles as the kitchen flooring, a retro touch in an environment of great formal cleanliness. Furniture, shelves, anthracite-colored iron handles, are vintage details that embellish a decidedly urban concept of life and style.
